Benedict Cumberbatch has admitted the door has been left open for a Star Trek 3 return, joking that JJ Abrams should have killed him off.
The Sherlock star played former Starfleet member-turned-terrorist John Harrison in last year’s Star Trek Into Darkness.
Later revealed to be iconic baddie Khan, the character is placed in cryogenic sleep along with his crew, at the end of the film.
“That was a stupid thing to do,” Cumberbatch joked during an interview with The New York Times.
Agreeing it has left the door open for a possible return, he added: “They should have just blown me up.”
Abrams will not direct the next Star Trek instalment due to working on Star Wars: Episode VII, but is set to return as producer.
Cumberbatch’s next film will see him appear as computer pioneer and Enigma Code cracker Alan Turing in The Imitation Game.
