After the success of the USS Riker’s Beard’s first diplomatic mission to DST3, the ship and crew warped toward the annual SFBall 21 in Southampton, UK this past weekend (6 – 8 February 2015), held at the Grand Harbour Hotel.
The ship’s sets were placed within the event, where all convention goers had a chance to sit in the Captain’s Chair, have their molecules scrambled on the transporter set, scan for life-forms on the bridge panels, and, our new additions to the ship, the battle bridge helm console and a Riker’s Beard MSD.
Captain James Dillon arrived early with a team of engineers to set the whole thing up just in time for the opening ceremony.
SFBall is an intimate convention, where the star guests are encouraged to mingle with the attendees and the SFBall cocktail party and banquet.
Friday night’s theme was Bedrock, where con-goers dressed as their favourite Flintstones characters, which included a giant inflatable Dino.
Saturday night’s theme was Steampunk, where a number of steampunked items were exhibited around the hotel, and guests turned their favourite sci-fi characters into Victorian Steam age costumes.
This years Trek guests were Robert Duncan McNeill – Tom Paris from Voyager, and Manu Intiraymi – Icheb, also from Voyager.
I have yet to make it to an SFBall event, but I MUST make it so next year, where Riker’s Beard himself Jonathan Frakes is attending.
Below are a few photos of the weekend.
