For those of you who have been following the restoration project of the shuttle Galileo, and indeed who also helped fund it, it has been announced that the finished shuttle will be donated to the Space Center Houston.
To recap, the Galileo had fallen into complete disrepair in Ohio and was covered in rust before Adam Schneider purchased it – for nearly $70,000 — at auction in 2012. Schneider, a veteran collector of screen-used Star Trek miniatures, then spent time and additional funds to restore the shuttle with the help of an on-line campaign. Gene Winfield, the original Galileo builder, helped on the restoration.
The shuttle will be displayed along with Mercury 9 capsule (Faith 7), Gemini 5 capsule, Apollo 17 command module, Lunar Rover Vehicle trainer, Skylab trainer mock-up, Lunar Module Test Article 8 and a Saturn V rocket.
